Letter: Alive, Audubon Society not linked
I am a vice president of the National Audubon Society and work here in Baton Rouge as director of Audubon’s Louisiana Coastal Initiative. The National Audubon Society is a century-old organization connecting people with nature through conservation of birds and their habitat. We have had a chapter here for decades and a program office for the past two years.
Recently, several people have approached me with questions about the portion of the bond issue dedicated to the Alive attraction proposed for the riverfront. Without expressing an opinion on the merits of the project, I do want to let everyone know that this attraction is being planned and would be operated by the Audubon Nature Institute — rightly renowned for the Audubon Zoo and Aquarium in New Orleans — not the National Audubon Society, its chapters or affiliates.
Audubon is a wonderful name much loved in this area, and these are just two different organizations that happen to share it.
Paul Kemp, vice president
