Letter: Tennessee River is recreation site
In an Commentary page column about visitors to Chattanooga, Advocate editorial writer Lanny Keller writes “the story of the Mississippi River is surely more powerful than that of the Tennessee, its tributary, and thus would be more attractive to visitors from across the country and the world.”
There is more than the “story of the river” involved. The Tennessee River is used for recreational purposes in the Chattanooga area.
There are numerous free public boat ramps, beaches and wooded parks to enjoy. The river is relatively clean and clear, offering great places to swim and ski, and the fishing is good.
When I moved from Chattanooga to Louisiana, I was amazed at the lack of use of the Mississippi River for recreation. The same is true of other rivers in the Baton Rouge area.
