Our Views: Young, old offer advice
The very young and the very old have the fewest inhibitions when it comes to sharing their wisdom about life. That’s the premise of a slender new book, “What I Know: Uncommon Wisdom and Universal Truths from 10-year-olds and 100-year-olds,” by Roger Emerson Fishman.
Fishman’s collected bits of advice from youngsters and oldsters includes a few tidbits from Louisiana. “Your mind is a burning fire,” a Kentwood child identified only as Aislinn F. tells readers. “So don’t get near it with a hose and try to put it out.”
A boy identified as Anthony P., also of Kentwood, says, “Take good care of your kids by keeping them away from people with messy colds and not letting them eat way too many french fries.”
“Family really is the circle of love,” says centenarian Murray Odel. “Be kind to your parents and remember that one day they’ll need you to take care of them.”
Words of wisdom from the young and old. We suspect that few of the pundits writing on today’s editorial page could offer anything better.
