Letter: Comment to EPA on proposals
I hope you will allow me to use your forum to notify readers that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is currently open to public comments concerning “Proposed Endangerment and Cause or Contribute Findings for Greenhouse Gases under the Clean Air Act.”
Although at this time, EPA does not propose any associated regulations, the endangerment finding is EPA’s first step toward triggering a cascade of Clean Air Act programs that will effectively impose strict regulations on a large segment of the American economy.
This may include regulations that will affect most all buildings (such as churches, schools, large and small businesses), the kind of fuels used, the car you drive and, taken to the extreme, how many times you can mow your lawn or blow away your snow or whether you can burn wood in your home stove.
The regulations will be just as onerous as cap-and-trade legislation. The public seems to be unaware that, though these regulations will not be a direct tax, the costs of increased regulation and/or “cap-and-trade” will likely run at least $2,000/year for Americans (http://newsok.com/climate-change-legislation-carries-a-hefty-price-tag/article/3365166?custom_cli ck=headlines_widget), and up to $3,100 per family per year, according to an MIT study, with inevitable increased government control over their entire lives, increased job losses and energy shortages.
Though it is doubtful that a public outcry will dissuade the EPA from following through with these regulations, I want to urge all readers (no matter what side of the issue they are on) to exercise their right to a democratic process and to submit comments to the EPA, as well as to their state and federal representatives.
To make comments by mail: Environmental Protection Agency, EPA Docket Center (EPA/DC), Mail code 6102T, Attention Docket IDNo. EPA-HQ-OAR-2009-0171, 1200 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, D.C. 20460
To make comments on the Web: http://www.regulations.gov/fdmspublic/component/main?main=AdvancedDocket
When you get to this window, enter the agency (Environmental Protection Agency) and Docket ID (HQ-OAR-2009-0171) and you will come to a second window which has a comment icon. When you click that icon, the form for comments comes open.
