Letter: City Court election important to BR
Good judges matter.
As noted in the article “Qualifying ends for April 4 election,” the campaign for Baton Rouge City Court judge has begun, with several candidates qualifying last week.
Now, this election may not receive as much hype or media attention as the recent presidential election or Senate race, but Baton Rouge voters still have an important responsibility to learn about the candidates and get to the polls on April 4.
Judges wield a great amount of power over our lives and pocketbooks. Our judges are on the front lines of many critical decisions that affect our community safety, environment, health care, jobs and schools. Most importantly, they have the power to provide justice for those who have been wronged and also protect our courts from abuse and junk lawsuits that clog our system and delay justice for the truly injured.
Good judges are the foundation of a properly functioning judicial system, and we are fortunate to have the power and responsibility to choose those who represent us. That’s why it’s important that we all get to know the candidates and learn about their judicial philosophies and the professional backgrounds they will bring to the bench.
Good judges matter, so do your homework, and don’t forget to vote.
