Letter: Be respectful to Saban Saturday
I know I’m not the only one who has this Saturday circled on the calendar. It marks the date when Nick Saban comes back to LSU for the first time on the college football level as an opponent since he left us in 2004.
As an avid LSU sports fan since the early ’70s, I’ve seen many coaches come and go. Some we couldn’t wait to see go, and some we wished would never leave. As I’m sure is true for many of you, Nick Saban was one I hated to lose.
In the same sense, I feel very fortunate and happy to have Les Miles as our head coach, and would hate to ever lose him. He has been very successful in taking over and continuing to grow a football program that we all can be very proud of and continue to support.
I write this letter asking all LSU football fans to join me this Saturday in Tiger Stadium to support our team to a victory over the currently No. 1-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. And in doing so, I ask each of you to please be respectful to our former coach.
Just remember that he is the man who laid the foundation for this unprecedented voyage in LSU football we now enjoy. Because of him and his efforts, we enjoyed our second of three national championships in more than 45 years.
We now have an amazing academic center for student athletes, one of the best — if not the best — football operations complexes in the nation and upgraded housing for our players that he is responsible for getting us. For years to come, these facilities will continue to help LSU recruit the quality and character of players that we want to wear the purple and gold and play for LSU.
So regardless of what he chose to do ... right or wrong ... in leaving LSU, let’s all tip our hats to Nick Saban this Saturday afternoon, welcome him with class and respect back to Death Valley ... then show him, on the field and in the stands, who’s the best team in the SEC and all of college football!
Geaux Tigers and Les Miles!
