Letter: Pay raise saga’s cast of characters
A new Louisiana best-seller is on the newsstands. With its numerous insensitive characters, “Louisiana Pied Pipers” is a really good read.
First to be introduced is Sen. Ann Duplessis, D-New Orleans, Pandora opening a box of lawmaker pay raises.
Secondly, House Speaker Jim Tucker, Judas Iscariot believing he’s doing the right thing for his colleagues.
Following in line are the Pharisees, those legislators voting to be self-serving with their “yes” vote.
Finally, Gov. Bobby Jindal, Pontius Pilate wanting them to “kill the raises.”
What a story line!
Although the last paragraph will not be published until July, the larger group of unheard characters, the voters, have already determined the right ending.
If Pontius Pilate, the governor, does not close Pandora’s box for good and “do the right thing” — veto Senate Bill 672 — the voters will “do the right thing” come election time.
For the governor to wash his hands of the salary issue unquestionably means a sequel with new characters will be written at the next election.
