Letter: It’s time for people to unite and rise

If ever there was a time for the citizenry of this state to unite and rise up, it is now.
I believe the democracy of the people as we know it is at risk like never before. While I have no hard numbers, I have to believe that the vast majority of the citizens of this state are adamantly opposed to the legislative pay raise in ANY form.
If the media reports were correct, my suspicions are an overwhelming majority of the citizens of this state have spoken. Whether it was to their collective representatives or the governor, the message was and remains: No pay raise! Not at this time at least.
If we are truly a government of the people, and a vast majority of those people tell their legislators how they want their vote represented. What is the question? The people have spoken.
Since the Legislature didn’t follow the will of the people, and the governor maintains he will follow suit, our democracy is done! Think about that, Gov. Jindal.
We don’t care about the deals Gov. Jindal has to make to get his projects done. If he rolls over on this, his credibility is done. And that is exactly what is wrong with this state in the first place.
