Letter: Remove autism coverage exclusion

I commend the Louisiana Legislature for passing HB958 to provide health insurance coverage for autistic children.
However, we still have a long way to go.

As a self-employed individual with small group coverage and the father of an autistic child, I urge the Legislature to close the exclusion for employers with 50 or fewer employees next year.

This exclusion discriminates against my son and all children with parents who are employed by small businesses.
I was told it was placed there to avoid conflict with lobbying groups, but with the unprecedented vote in both houses I believe this would have passed.

Please, for these children, close that hole in 2009.
