Letter: Who’s running Governor’s Office?

I must say that as a person who enthusiastically voted for Gov. Bobby Jindal and as a former member of the Louisiana National Guard, I was completely mortified to hear that the governor intends to retain Maj. Gen. Bennett Landreneau as the adjutant general of the Louisiana National Guard.

To further read that it is former Gov. Mike Foster’s intercession that caused Gov. Jindal to ignore the input of HIS committee, Recommendation Committee for the Adjunct General of the Army National Guard (several I know personally as the most honest and forthright leaders I have ever known), is disconcerting at best.

I thought by supporting Gov. Jindal we were going to get new leadership, new ideas and new direction. Looks like we are going to get the same old same old of Gov. Foster and Gov. Blanco. Words cannot convey my disappointment.

If this is the sign of “innovation” and new ideas under the Foster administration (excuse me, Jindal administration), my faith in the recovery has just been shot.

Someone with wisdom and who is close to the governor needs to counsel him on this decision and the quality of Chief of Staff Timmy Teepell’s counsel. Teepell may be Jindal’s undoing in the long run if this is evidence of his advice.

I spent 25 years in the Louisiana Air National Guard under the leadership of members of the committee (former Adjutant Gen. Buddy Stroud, Brig. Gen. Sam deGeneres and Brig. Gen. Kenneth Ross) as well as the current senior leadership.

I can personally tell you that the committee is spot on in their assessment of the current condition of the Louisiana Guard.

To have the committee’s recommendations summarily dismissed, not considered and not even received on the direction of former Gov. Mike Foster gives credence that back-room and Orwellian politics is alive and well, even in a Jindal administration. I am left wondering if it really does matter whom you vote for. Oh well.
