Letter: Maybe we need Court for Parents

We cannot afford to become complacent, comfortable nor negligent when the security, safety and stability of our lives and society could be drastically altered by generations to come.

It is impossible to ignore the behavior of some of the youths in our communities. It is not inconceivable that some of the leaders of the future may be those who may think very differently from the older and wiser generation today. Can we afford to sit back and wait until we become senior citizens in a society where undisciplined behavior rules and thereby affects worldwide elections and other major decisions?

Even today, we notice and experience unacceptable attitudes among those who serve us and frequent stores and restaurants, and younger drivers on the road.

I sincerely pray that the future will have a majority of focused individuals with a clear sense of right and wrong, but what if this is not the case? Something must be done to alter the path of those who may ultimately change our society. If not, we may see a broad band of young adults clouding our voices with a call for “Barabbas.”

We must work together to secure our future. One thing we must do legislatively is to call parents to task, to take responsibility for their children, to accept their responsibility to make sure that their children are going in the right direction. Far too many parents have dropped the ball, and far too many are too young themselves.

Perhaps our legislators or school board officials should consider a Court for Parents, where parents will give account for children who habitually violate rules, including excessive absenteeism in schools. We all realize or should realize by now, that if some individuals do not receive an adequate education or have very undisciplined behavior, we all pay.
