Letter: Independent voter backs McCain

  • Published: Feb 25, 2008
As an independent voter registered with no party, I am writing to urge my fellow Louisianians to support U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., for president, for the following reasons:
  • John McCain is obviously the only candidate who understands the jihad declared against our nation in 1998, culminating in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The Democratic candidates want to “end” the war in Iraq; Sen. McCain is adult enough to know you never have the option of “ending” a war — you either win it or lose it. Like it or not, Iraq (along with Afghanistan) is the Middle Eastern front of this now-offensive war. The consequences of surrender there are unthinkable. The Democrats know that, but are willing to demagogue this issue anyway — even though it means endangering our country. That is tantamount to lying to the American people, thus they have forfeited their right to our vote.
  • John McCain is obviously the only candidate who understands our nation’s free-market economy. Cutting government spending and taxes grows the economy, creates jobs and increases federal revenue.
The Democrats’ plan to increase both government giveaways and taxes would wreck our economy, as it has in the past. As college graduates, the Democratic candidates seeking the nomination for president undoubtedly know that. That is tantamount to lying to the American people, thus they have forfeited their right to our vote.

John McCain is a war hero and natural leader who has proved he is the only man in the race qualified to serve as our commander in chief as our nation fights World War III.

For the safety of our nation and our economy, please consider this outstanding candidate.
