LAFAYETTE — Thanks to community support, the Police Association of Lafayette was able to provide 41 families with a complete Thanksgiving feast.

Cpl. Guy Lebreton, president of the Police Association of Lafayette, was on hand Friday to present the meal certificates to the Progressive Baptist Food Bank, at 2001 E. Simcoe St.

“This year the community responded very well. The businesses came out in force and donated to us the funds” for the meals, Lebreton said.

“We’re really glad to be able to help out, especially at this difficult year with the economy where it is,” he continued.

The meal certificates can be redeemed Sunday to Tuesday at Super One Foods, at 3747 Ambassador Caffery Parkway.

The store will provide families with a basket containing turkey, dressing, green beans, yam and a pecan pie.

This year marks the first time the Police Association has teamed up with Super One Foods. In previous years, Le- breton said, officers drove around with frozen turkeys in their vehicles to deliver meals to families in need.

Kitty Joseph, coordinator of Progressive Baptist FoodNet pantry, thanked the Police Association for their support.

Joseph said the struggling economy has led to a decrease in donations. Efforts like those shown by the Police Association go a long way toward helping families in need during the holidays, she said.

“I appreciate them thinking about me to give those certificates to,” she said, adding that she will “give it out to the families that really need them.”
