LAFAYETTE — Dr. James Robert “Bob” Rivet, 76, former medical director of  Hospice of Acadiana, died Monday.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Martin & Castille Funeral Home. A wake service is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

After retiring from his successful practice as a neurosurgeon, Rivet dedicated his time as a volunteer physician for the nonprofit hospice agency, according  to  a  news  release.

Rivet helped recruit more than 20 physicians to serve the patients and families in hospice treatment with Hospice of Acadiana.

Earlier this year, Hospice of Acadiana named Rivet its medical director emeritus.
