Baker man booked in church burglaries
BAKER — Police arrested a Baker man accused of breaking into a church Wednesday night and a residence last month, a Baker Police Department spokesman said.
Lt. James Broussard said officers responded to three separate burglar alarms at Bethany World Prayer Center on Wednesday, but found no one on the premises and no forced entry to the church after the first two alarms sounded.
On the third alarm, police learned that a Bethany staff member had encountered a man on the church grounds earlier, and officers found Darrious Adams, 22, during a search of the outer perimeter of the church property, Broussard said.
He admitted committing burglaries in the past two weeks in which two flat-screen television sets were taken from the church, police said. Adams told police he hid inside the building until all other occupants had left for the day in order to steal the television sets, the spokesman said.
During questioning, Adams also admitted burglarizing a residence on Malino Street in Baker on Oct. 17, where musical instruments and electronic devices were taken, Broussard said.
Officers booked Adams, 6510 E. Myrtle St., Baker, at Parish Prison early Thursday with simple burglary of a religious institution, simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling and as a fugitive from another agency, Broussard said.
