Truck inspection leads to marijuana arrest
GROSSE TETE — State Police arrested a Florida truck driver Wednesday after finding more than 30 pounds of marijuana hidden in his truck.
Edward Gross, 53, of Marianna, Fla., was driving an empty 18-wheeler from Edna, Texas, to Alfred, Fla., when State Police stopped the rig on Interstate 10 for a safety inspection, according to a news release.
A police dog brought to the scene indicated the presence of drugs in the cab of the 1990 Freightliner truck, troopers said.
A search of the truck led to nearly 31 pounds of marijuana hidden under a bunk in the cab, State Police said.
Troopers arrested Gross and booked him into Iberville Parish Prison on a count of possession of drugs with intent to distribute.
