Agency to collect household waste
The Environmental Quality Division of Lafayette Consolidated Government will collect household chemicals and electronics for disposal from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Cajun Field parking lot.
Chemicals to be collected include paint, pesticides, gasoline, mercury and cleaning solutions.
Electronics to be collected include computers, cell phones, televisions and copiers.
The drop-off is only for residents of Lafayette Parish.
Event to benefit children’s groups
Proceeds from 2009 KBON 101.1 Fan Appreciation Party this weekend will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana.
The event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Rayne Pavilion at 206 Frog Festival Drive in Rayne.
Scheduled performers include Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie, the Pine Leaf Boys, and Corey Ledet and His Zydeco Band. Admission is $5.
Bridge to be shut on Bruce Street
The bridge on Bruce Street between Raymond Street and Carrie Street in Lafayette is closed until further notice beginning immediately, the Lafayette City-Parish Department of Traffic and Transportation announced this week.
The closure is because of structural deterioration. Detour routes will marked.
