Federal agents arrested a Tangipahoa Parish sheriff’s deputy Tuesday for allegedly selling crack cocaine to inmates in the Tangipahoa Parish Jail, U.S. Attorney Jim Letten of New Orleans said in a news release.

Special agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration arrested Kevin Whittington, 44, following an investigation, Letten said in the release.

The release says a confidential DEA source gave Whittington 24 grams of crack cocaine and Whittington agreed to deliver the crack cocaine to an inmate in the jail.

Whittington, if convicted, could face up to 40 years in federal prison and a $2 million fine, Letten said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney André Jones will serve as prosecutor in the case, Letten said in the release.
