State Briefs for July 6, 2009
MONROE — A 28-year-old Monroe mother is facing a child desertion charge for allegedly leaving her 2-year-old son locked in a vehicle while she shopped.
Monroe police arrested Laquaruis Wallace. An arrest affidavit obtained Saturday says the child was left in the vehicle with no circulating air for about 40 minutes before police were called and temperatures exceeded 100 degrees.
Police say an employee had to use the store’s public announcement system to call the suspect outside. Wallace allegedly told police she left her son in the vehicle because he was asleep and she did not want to wake him.
Wallace’s bond has not been set.

Boyte was among eight people indicted in June 2003 following an 18-month investigation.

LAFAYETTE — Louisiana State Police say a Crowley man who died Sunday was struck by a pickup truck after losing control of his motorcycle on Interstate 10 east of Louisiana Avenue.
Authorities have identified the victim as 33-year-old Joseph Warren Young.
Just before 2:05 a.m. Sunday, State Police say Young was driving his motorcycle west on I-10, followed by a pickup driven by 51-year-old Barry P. Trumps, also of Crowley.
