DERIDDER — Bonds of $90,000 apiece were set for four men accused of planting bombs in two churches in the DeRidder area.
Authorities have booked the four with aggravated burglary, theft, possessing a bomb, simple arson and criminal conspiracy.
They are Nathan Lee, 17, Rosepine; Sidney Fletcher, 21, DeRidder; Timothy Free, 18, DeRidder; and Anthony Martin, 17, Rosepine.
Investigators said the bombs were made of fireworks compacted in heavy-duty flashlights.
At one church, technicians dismantled a bomb. At the other, authorities said, a window was broken by what appeared to be a bomb explosion.
‘Pontilly’ golf course renovation to begin
NEW ORLEANS — Construction was set to officially begin Saturday on a golf course considered an anchor of efforts to bring back two New Orleans neighborhoods.
The sprawling, 18-hole course sustained wind and saltwater damage from Hurricane Katrina, which swamped the city Aug. 29, 2005.
The overhaul is considered a critical piece in efforts to bring back Gentilly Woods and Pontchartrain Park.
The New Orleans Redevelopment Authority made the area, known as “Pontilly,” an initial focus of efforts to bring back housing and entire communities.
Street improvements, sports stadium work and a senior center are among the other local projects planned or under way.
The city estimates the cost of the golf course restoration and improvements at $9.8 million. The completion date for the project is next July.
