Traffic crash kills 78-year-old Baker man
ZACHARY — A 78-year-old Baker man died Wednesday afternoon of injuries suffered in a three-vehicle crash on Plank Road, Police Chief John Herty said.
Herty identified the victim as William Browning, a passenger in a vehicle who was being returned to his residence at a nursing home. He was pronounced dead several hours after the midafternoon crash.
The police chief said a northbound car driven by Sharon Smith, 49, of Harrell’s Ferry Road, Baton Rouge, failed to stop in time and rear-ended a car stopped on Plank Road to turn left onto Angus Drive.
The impact knocked the turning car into the path of the southbound car in which Browning was riding, Herty said.
The crashes were still under investigation Wednesday night, but Herty said Smith faces six counts of negligent injury and one count of negligent homicide.
