West Baton Rouge Parish government recently honored its “departed members and friends” by listing them on a newly dedicated memorial outside the parish courthouse. The list includes five law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty since 1959.
According to a statement, the parish acknowledged “with great sorrow and a deep sense of loss … the absence of our fellow departed members and friends.”
The law enforcement officers honored were West Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputies Junious D. Marchand, who died Oct. 11, 1959; Roy S. Bujol, who died Oct. 6, 1982; Cpl. Joseph W. Jarreau Sr., who died Nov. 23, 1985; and Cpl. Wilno Ray Langlois, who died Nov. 24, 1991.
Also listed is Patrolman Michael W. Bourgoyne, of the Port Allen Police Department.
Commencement invite
The Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women at St. Gabriel plans to hold its annual commencement ceremony today.
It will award 62 inmates with diplomas or certifications in fields including culinary arts, horticulture, office systems technology, upholstery and general educational development certificates.
An additional 26 inmates will graduate from the institution’s Developmental Education Program.
Baton Rouge Police Chief Jeff LeDuff is scheduled to deliver the commencement address during the 10 a.m. ceremony in the LCIW gymnasium.

Campaign bus sets visit
Port Allen’s chapter of Freedom School will host the C-Span Campaign Bus at Shiloh Baptist Church in Port Allen from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today.
While touring the $1 million mobile TV production studio, students will learn about the political process.
The Freedom School was made possible by an $83,000 grant from the state Department of Social Services and the Children’s Defense Fund.
Art appreciation
The West Baton Rouge Art Class, led by instructor Mary A. Parker, and West Baton Rouge Senior Spirit are jointly hosting an Art Appreciation Exhibit at the Senior Spirit Center on Elaine Street in Brusly from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Nov. 25.
