Fremin gets board nod, replaces David Romero
NEW IBERIA — The Iberia Parish School Board voted 10-2 Wednesday to name Kenric Fremin to replace former board member David Romero.
Romero resigned as the representative of District 14 to pursue his private career. His resignation was effective June 30.
Five people — Fremin, Ronald Babineaux, Dannette Bird, Jeremy Romero, and Shannon Louviere — applied to fill the interim position.
Board members Clara Carrier and Danny Segura voted for Babineaux. Board member Blaine Meche was absent.
Following the vote, the board unanimously adopted a motion to accept Fremin as interim representative of District 14. Fremin was sworn in by Assistant District Attorney Wayne Landry.
The board also unanimously adopted a resolution to increase substitute pay by $5 per day for each category in lieu of the minimum wage increase.
The board went into executive session for about an hour to discuss Superintendent Dale Henderson’s evaluation for the 2007-08 school year.
Later, in open session, Henderson was given a favorable review and a $3,500 raise.
