NEW IBERIA — The Iberia Parish School Board spent its time celebrating both academic and athletic achievements during its regular Wednesday night meeting.
Supervisor of Testing and Evaluation Suzanne Whitaker shared the 2006-2007 test and school performance scores with the board.
Whitaker said the Iberia Parish District Performance Score was 84.4, an increase of 0.3 points. The Iberia Parish school system is now ranked 28th out of the 69 school districts in the state.
Thirteen of the parishes’ schools showed academic growth and seven earned rewards.
Ten schools displayed no academic growth, and five schools were labeled schools in decline.
Iberia Parish has no schools labeled academically unacceptable, one school in subgroup component failure, and five schools in academic assistance.
“We are improving in some, and we have some work to do in others,” she explained.
Other rankings included the teacher certification indicator and the 8th grade persistence indicator, measured by the percentage of eighth-graders who continue schooling the next year.
Iberia Parish received a label of exceptional for its teacher certification index of 97.5 and ranked 18th in the state.
The parish’s 8th grade persistence indicator received a label of adequate, with a value of 98.5 percent and a ranking of 16th in the state.
Whitaker said that the 2008 LEAP test results came in on Tuesday, and Iberia Parish was above the state average for the amount of fourth-graders meeting the promotional standard, and at the state level for eighth-graders meeting the promotional standard.
She added that the iLEAP results will be released Friday.
The board also recognized the Students of the Year. These three students are Alyssa Rochon, a fifth-grader at Sugarland Elementary, Adrian Oudomrath, an eighth-grader at Anderson Middle, and Lacey Blanchard, a 12th-grader at Westgate High School.
