Guitarist to lead Acadiana arts board
LAFAYETTE — Classical guitarist Gerd Wuestemann has been tapped to head the Acadiana Arts Council, the organization’s board of directors announced Monday.
Wuestemann, a native of Germany who has lived in Lafayette since 1996, is scheduled to take the executive director’s seat on May 19.
Wuestemann is a classical guitarist who once taught at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
He maintains a busy recording and performing schedule and has worked locally in marketing and event promotion.
“He had the best combination of the key attributes we were looking for: strong leadership, good communications skills, an obvious understanding of the arts and artists, demonstrated business and finance skills, and a clear orientation toward fundraising and development,” said Acadiana Arts Council board president Ed Abell in a written statement.
Wuestemann will oversee arts council programming and the management of the Acadiana Center for the Arts in downtown Lafayette.
The choice of Wuestemann comes after a four-month search that began when former executive director Buddy Palmer unexpectedly resigned in January after leading the organization since 1995.
