David Brown, a 37-year-old environmental lawyer, is running for the District 67 seat in the state House of Representatives.

“I’m running to help amplify the voice of the people so that it can be heard over the roar of special interests,” Brown said.

“Louisiana’s people should no longer be held hostage by the politics of private profit over the public good.”

Brown said too many people are leaving Louisiana in search of a better life. He proposed injecting more progressive ideas and improving ethics.

He said if Louisiana can improve the efficiency and accountability for the expenditure of limited public dollars, the state’s national image will improve.

“This will inevitably produce sorely needed economic opportunity and provide better options for all Louisianains —especially our most disadvantaged or at-risk populations,” Brown said in a news release.

“I want the issues that really matter to the people of Louisiana — access to health care, affordable housing, a clean environment, and open, efficient government — to be foremost on the Legislature’s agenda,” Brown said.

Brown also advocates stronger environmental protections and creative solutions for the state’s educational shortcomings, apply proven approaches to expand business opportunities and stronger economic development, emphasize the importance of coastal restoration and hurricane preparedness, improve mass transit options and strengthen protections and programs for children.

Brown, a resident of Spanish Town, is running for the seat held by state Rep. Yvonne Dorsey, D-Baton Rouge.

Dorsey cannot seek re-election because of term limits.

Qualifying is Sept. 4-6.

The primary election is Oct. 20 and a runoff, if needed, on Nov. 17.

House District 67 stretches from  north of the State Capitol, along the Mississippi River through downtown past LSU and west of Ben Hur to Duncan Point.
