Official admits considering run

State Natural Resources Secretary Scott Angelle acknowledged that he is mulling whether to run for U.S. Rep. Charles “Charlie” Melancon’s seat.

Melancon is challenging U.S. Sen. David Vitter next year.

“It’s an opportunity I certainly want to look at,” Angelle said Wednesday.

Angelle is often mentioned as a candidate but has not publicly addressed the possibility.

He said he is undecided on whether he would run as a Democrat or a Republican.

Before going to work for former Gov. Kathleen Blanco and later Gov. Bobby Jindal, Angelle was a Democratic Party officeholder in St. Martin Parish from 1987 to 2004.

Natchitoches rep sees BR backups

The focus of a recent legislative hearing was state aid for local roads.

But state Rep. Rick Nowlin, R-Natchitoches, said he has worked in Baton Rouge long enough to know the state Capitol has some serious traffic backups.

“I am not blind to the problems here,” Nowlin said.
