Panel says increase driver’s education
The House transportation panel endorsed legislation Monday night that would require more driver’s education training for young people.

Teenagers could not take a driving class until they reach age 15 under Senate Bill 465. They would have to undergo 30 hours of classroom training required today and 10 hours of driving instead of the six hours required today.

In addition, the parents of those who get learner’s permits would have to attest that they have driven with the applicant 25 hours or more before an applicant get a regular license upon turning 16.

SB465 now heads to the House for final legislative approval.

Red-light cameras addressed by bill
If caught running a red light by a traffic camera, the offense would not become a part of the driver’s record under legislation that cleared a House panel Monday night.

The House Transportation, Highways and Public Works Committee signed off on Sen-ate Bill 74 then shipped it to the House floor for debate.
