Bill makes supplying ammo to felon illegal
The House Administration of Criminal Justice committee approved a bill Thursday that would make it illegal to supply a known felon with ammunition.
State Rep. Austin Badon, D-New Orleans and sponsor of House Bill 73, said a few years ago, the Legislature passed another bill he sponsored, making it illegal for someone to give a known felon a firearm.
“I neglected to add ammunition, and that’s what this bill would do,” he said.
Badon said he did not want the criminal to get away with a slap on the wrist.
Rep. Bodi White, R-Central, agreed saying that a gun without ammunition is as lethal as a baseball bat.
“It’s the ammunition that’s the danger,” he said.
