DENHAM SPRINGS — Troopers arrested a Denham Springs woman on Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run wreck on Nov. 18 that killed a man near Watson, State Police Troop A reported.
Following a tip, troopers discovered a white Mercury Grand Marquis that had crash damage to the right front fender and windshield, a statement by Troop A said.
An analysis of the car showed it was involved in the crash that killed Richard C. France, 56, of Denham Springs, Troop A said.
France was riding his bicycle sometime between midnight and daybreak Nov. 18 along La. 1026 in Watson when a car struck him from behind, Troop A said.
A person passing by noticed France lying in the ditch and called 911, Troop A said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office.
On Tuesday, troopers arrested Amanda W. Cupit, 38, of Denham Springs, who allegedly had driven the Marquis in the early morning hours of Nov. 18, Troop A said.
She was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on counts of felony hit-and-run and obstruction of justice.
Troopers also were looking for Cupit’s boyfriend, Jay C. Meliet, 38, of Denham Springs, who allegedly was in the car and attempted to help Cupit conceal the crash by washing the vehicle, Troop A said. Anyone with information on Meliet’s whereabouts is asked to call State Police at (225) 754-8500.
