GONZALES — The Gonzales Police Department asked Thursday for the public’s help in identifying three men implicated in the theft of $700 worth of cigarettes from a convenience store.

At 1:30 p.m. Nov. 5, two men wearing striped polo shirts asked a clerk at Moe’s Discount, 1546 N. Burnside Ave., Gonzales, to get them some items from under the counter, police said in a statement.

At the same time, a third man stole a box containing about 18 cartons of cigarettes, police said.

Police said the robbers may have driven off in a black, two-door Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Store surveillance cameras photographed the men during the robbery.

Police Sgt. Steve Nethken said investigators do not believe the men who carried out the Gonzales robbery are the same ones who committed a similar theft in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Anyone with information about the Moe’s Discount robbery is asked to contact police Detective Lance Bourgeois at gpdtips@gonzalespd.org or call Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP.
