Deputies arrest 2 suspects in burning of ‘stolen’ truck
CLINTON — East Feliciana Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested two men Tuesday in the burning of a truck that had been reported stolen.
Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Garig said Charlie Young Jr., 40, 13840 Henderson Lane, Clinton, reported on Aug. 17 that his pickup truck had been stolen from the Post Office parking lot in Clinton.
About 15 minutes before Young reported the truck stolen, the Sheriff’s Office received a report that a truck was on fire on Spec Garig Road in Norwood, Garig said.
The truck, which was destroyed by the fire, was found to be Young’s, and an investigation by deputies, the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Clinton police revealed that Young allegedly enlisted a fellow employee of the parish Police Jury, Derrick D. Hill, to meet him and give him a ride home after he torched his truck, Garig said.
Young, arrested at the Police Jury maintenance yard, was booked with arson with intent to defraud and criminal mischief for filing a false theft report with Clinton police, Garig said.
Hill, 34, 6273 Bay St., Wilson, was booked with principal to arson with intent to defraud.
