Deputies match DNA to Amite burglary scene
AMITE — The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office made an arrest in a 9-month-old burglary based on a DNA match of blood left at the crime scene last year, according to a news release.
The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab tested a sample of blood submitted by deputies and found it matched a sample taken from a man convicted in 2004 of simple robbery, deputies said in a statement issued Friday.
The samples were matched through the state DNA Index System, deputies said.
With that information, deputies arrested James Bradley Willis, 30, 15067 La. 16, Amite, Thursday on a single count of burglary, said Dawn Panepinto, sheriff’s spokeswoman.
Willis cut himself while allegedly burglarizing K&B Automotive Center on La. 16 in Amite, deputies said. Equipment was stolen from the mechanic shop during a burglary Sept. 22, deputies said.
