Sheriff releases details on robbery
The Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday released more information about the Tuesday afternoon robbery of the Regions Bank on Greenwell Springs Road.
Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kellie Engels described the robber as a dark-skinned black male with a scruffy beard who appeared to be 30 to 35 years old, from 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 135 to 150 pounds.
He was wearing blue jeans, a dark windbreaker pullover, white Adidas tennis shoes and a khaki Polo brand hat, Engels said in a news release.
After entering the bank around 3:25 p.m. and telling the teller he had a concealed weapon, the man drove away from the scene in a pewter or dark brown GMC Yukon or Chevrolet Tahoe from 1998 to 2005 with the license plate PSG344, Engels said.
Deputies, however, discovered Tuesday that the license plate had been stolen earlier that day.
Anyone with any information about this robbery is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (225) 389-5000 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
Single-car crash kills 2 near Burbank, Lee
Two 20-year-old men were killed Wednesday in a single-car crash near Burbank and Lee drives, a Louisiana State Police official said.
The crash occurred at 1:13 a.m. when a 2003 Lincoln Luxury Sport struck a crepe myrtle in the median of Burbank Drive, Trooper Russell Graham said.
The car overturned and struck another large tree in the median before landing on its roof, trapping both men inside, Graham said.
Cortland J. Hebert, of New Iberia, and Austin K. Tyson, of Leesville, had to be extricated, Graham said.
Hebert, the driver of the Lincoln, was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, where he later died, Graham said. Tyson, the only passenger in the car, died at the scene.
Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in the crash, Graham said. Blood taken from Hebert was submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
At least two arrested on suspicion of DWI
Authorities arrested at least two people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 3 p.m. Tuesday and 3 p.m. Wednesday, booking records show.
