Texan dies; car plunges into bayou
FOURCHON — An Austin, Texas, man was killed when he lost control of his car and it plunged into Bayou Lafourche, State Police said in a news release Monday.
Fernando Alvarez, 49, was northbound on La. 1 about five miles south of Fourchon Saturday night when he lost control of his car in a curve.
The car flipped and landed in the bayou, according to State Police.
Alvarez was underwater for an extended period and was pronounced dead at the scene, State Police said.
Alvarez was wearing a seat belt, and alcohol use is unknown, State Police said.
