Livingston deputies book 2 on drug charges
SPRINGFIELD — A deputy pulled over three men riding a three-wheeler back from a morning hunt, leading to two arrests and the seizure of marijuana and $33,000, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office reported.
The riders, who carried shotguns and smelled of marijuana, were stopped on Pardue Road near Springfield around 10:18 a.m. Saturday, Perry Rushing, sheriff’s chief of operations, said Tuesday.
The driver, Jimmy Elbert Lindsey Jr., 22, 25136 West St., Springfield, told the deputy he did not have marijuana on him but had some at his house. The deputy went to the house and found 1‰ ounces of marijuana, smoking pipes and more than $3,000, deputies said.
A drug-sniffing dog led deputies to a locked safe in the house. Lindsey said the safe belonged to a friend, but Lindsey was arrested and brought along with the safe to the Livingston Parish Detention Center, deputies said.
Jeffery Rushing, 24, 25145 Fayard Road, Springfield, the safe’s owner, came to claim it Saturday, opened it and was arrested. Inside was more marijuana and $30,000, deputies said.
Lindsey was booked with unauthorized vehicle on roadway, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Jeffery Rushing was booked with possession of marijuana, deputies said. Both men were released on bond Saturday.
