Extension cord suspected in blaze
Fire investigators believe an overloaded extension cord sparked a blaze at the Sharlo Terrace II apartments early Monday morning.

Firefighters were called to 1808 Brightside Ave., Apt. 15025, at 3:49 a.m., Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman Robert Combs said. The blaze was under control almost an hour later and caused an estimated $110,000 in damage to the building and its contents, he said.

One person in bed near the extension cord was injured in the blaze when the bed ignited, suffering second-degree burns on his upper back and right leg, Combs said. Paramedics took him to the burn unit at Baton Rouge General-Mid City.

The unit involved in the fire was heavily damaged, but the three other units in the building received only smoke damage, he said.

Fire damages home in north Baton Rouge
A fire at a north Baton Rouge home Monday morning caused an estimated $60,000 in damage, Fire Department spokesman Robert Combs said.

Firefighters were called to 6162 Barksdale St. at 8:48 a.m. and put out the blaze in under 20 minutes, Combs said.

Investigators believe the fire started near a window air conditioning unit in a bedroom, Combs said. Fire left the rear of the house heavily damaged, but no one was injured in the blaze.

Police arrest lawyer in drugs, guns case
Local lawyer Frederick Stolzle, 57, was arrested Nov. 21 on marijuana and gun charges, a Baton Rouge City Constable spokesman said.

Baton Rouge City Constable deputies arrived at Stolzle’s residence, 6858 Old Magnolia Road, to execute an order of eviction, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Constable spokesman Sgt. Marc Tabor said deputies entered the residence and found a bag of marijuana sitting in plain view. Deputies searched the house and found six shotguns and an AR-15 rifle in the residence, Tabor said.

Deputies arrested Stolzle for possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, Tabor said.

Stolzle was processed at the Baton Rouge City Jail, then booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, Tabor said. Stolzle did not return a message left at his office Monday, and a second number listed in his name was disconnected.
