Officer booked in rape released on bond
A Baton Rouge police officer accused of rape was released from Livingston Parish Detention Center late Thursday on a $400,000 bond.
Three of Cpl. Jeffrey Scott Webb’s relatives posted a property bond in East Baton Rouge Parish, court records show.
The bond was transferred to Livingston Parish, where Webb, 36, of Denham Springs, was being held since Monday.
Perry Rushing, chief of operations for the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, said the transferable property bond was received Thursday prior to Webb’s release.
Webb was arrested Monday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl at his Denham Springs home early Sunday, Rushing has said.
Megan Matthews, 20, of Denham Springs, an acquaintance of the victim, is accused of giving the girl alcohol and, once the girl was intoxicated, persuading her to go the officer’s house at 34872 Eagle Ridge Drive, Rushing has said.
Webb was booked into Livingston Parish Detention Center on a count of simple rape after surrendering to deputies Monday evening, Rushing has said.
Matthews, 8012 Acadiana Ave., was booked into the detention center on counts of principal to simple rape and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, Rushing has said. She was released from parish jail Tuesday on a $50,000 bond.
Webb, a 12-year veteran of the Baton Rouge Police Department, was placed on paid administrative leave Monday when the department became aware of the rape investigation, Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman, has said.
Under Louisiana law, simple rape carries a sentence of up to 25 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
