Motorist booked on counts involving methamphetamine
LIVINGSTON — A motorist who told narcotics agents during a traffic stop they needed to quit harassing him and other methamphetamine users and concentrate instead on “crack cocaine users,” was arrested and booked with drug and traffic violations, Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputies said.
Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and Tri-Parish Narcotics Task Force agents saw Clifton Howard Higginbotham, 44, 22402 La. 444, Livingston, driving a sport utility vehicle erratically on La. 63 south of Interstate 12 at 9:20 p.m. Monday, deputies said in a statement Tuesday.
Once Higginbotham was pulled over, he told agents, in addition to the methamphetamine user complaint, his erratic driving was due to his sending a text message while he drove, deputies said.
Agents saw at least two methamphetamine precursors on the SUV’s front seat: denatured alcohol and pseudoephedrine, deputies said.
Agents later found in the SUV more pseudoephedrine, $1,356 and drug paraphernalia, including a methamphetamine pipe and “tooting straws,” which are used to sniff the drug, deputies said.
Higginbotham was arrested Monday and booked with operation and creation of a methamphetamine lab, improper lane usage, failure to signal, improper display of a license plate and failure to secure vehicle registration, deputies said.
He remained in the Livingston Parish Detention Center on Tuesday morning with a $502,000 bond and a hold for probation and parole violations, deputies said.
