EBR fugitive caught after a brief escape
NAPOLEONVILLE — A fugitive wanted in East Baton Rouge Parish escaped from custody in Assumption Parish during the weekend, but was promptly recaptured, Sheriff Mike Waguespack said Tuesday.
Assumption deputies detained Eric Green, 39, 237 Daggs St., Plattenville, after East Baton Rouge authorities issued an arrest warrant Friday for Green accusing him of being implicated in a Nov. 7 armed robbery.
Green was handcuffed to a bench waiting to be transported to Baton Rouge when he slipped out of the handcuffs and walked out of the parish jail behind a departing deputy, Waguespack said.
Green was caught within 10 minutes hiding in a bush less than 100 yards away, Waguespack said.
On Nov. 8, East Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputies had arrested Green and booked him with two felony counts of robbery and other crimes in cases separate from the Nov. 7 robbery, the sheriff said.
