ZACHARY — Police arrested three Houston residents Thursday night accused of fraudulently buying more than $27,000 in gift cards, a spokesman for Police Chief John Herty said.

Detective Capt. David McDavid said U.S. Secret Service agents were called in to help Zachary police determine the magnitude of the alleged credit-card fraud uncovered with the arrests.

Police got a call Thursday night from the Home Depot store about the possible fraudulent use of an access card, and officers were able to stop the suspects’ car on Plank Road, McDavid said.

“We found a bunch of credit cards in the car made out to the three people,” McDavid said.

McDavid said the cards are imprinted with names of the three, but the magnetic strips on the back of the cards contain personal information for other people.

“Basically, they’re draining other peoples’ bank accounts. It’s a major operation,” he said.

Zachary police booked Charles A. Fagbemi, 18, with seven counts of access device fraud; Chilita Diane Wilson, 33, with five counts of access device fraud; and Eric Bernard Russell Jr., 22, with accessory to access device fraud, McDavid said.

Secret Service agents also are investigating, and additional charges are possible, McDavid said.

In addition to the credit cards, police seized maps of area stores and a laptop computer, he said.
