Belle Chasse man dies in wreck

A Belle Chasse man died Thursday afternoon in a three- vehicle crash on La. 1 in Lafourche Parish, State Police reported Friday.
The wreck occurred about 1.3 miles north of the T-Bois Bridge in the northern Larose area, according to a news release troopers issued.
Lonnie Barthe, 42, Belle Chasse, was southbound when he attempted to pass a flatbed truck driven by Joseph Smith, 75, of Raceland, troopers said.
Barthe struck an oncoming pickup truck driven by Jonathan Darda, 26, of Larose, and Smith collided with Barthe, State Police said.
Barthe was pronounced dead at the scene. Darda and Smith were transported with minor injuries to St. Anne Hospital.
Alcohol and drug use on the part of Barthe is unknown with the results pending from the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office, the release says.
Alcohol and drug use on the part of Darda and Smith are not suspected, troopers said, but results are pending from the State Police Crime Lab.
