N.O. recovery czar to address displaced
NEW ORLEANS — Displaced New Orleans residents still living in the Baton Rouge area more than 2 1/2 years after Hurricane Katrina are being asked to attend a “listening session’’ Tuesday in Baton Rouge.
New Orleans recovery czar Ed Blakely, City Council President Arnie Fielkow and several community organizations are hosting the session in the Baton Rouge Metro Council chambers at 222 Saint Louis St., Room 364, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
“I know that many people are still considering whether to return to New Orleans, and it is up to the city to give them the information to make that critical decision,’’ Fielkow said.
Fielkow said the session, which will include a recovery update from Blakely, will “give us a chance to hear about the most pressing issues and concerns of displaced residents.’’
“I will then take those concerns back to New Orleans to continue addressing them,’’ he said.
The faith-based Jeremiah Group, ACORN (the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) and All Congregations Together (ACT) are co-hosting the session.
Fielkow’s office can be contacted at (504) 658-1060 for more information.
