Detectives talk Internet safety

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives talked with Loranger High school students about Internet safety.

Representatives from the Sheriff’s Office provided information on how to best protect themselves when using social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook.

“The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is making every effort to educate students and adults about online exploitation of children.  These presentations are taught by detectives who investigate Internet crimes, and they offer attendees an ‘eye opening’ glimpse into the online world.

These presentations are part of the continuing mission of the Internet Crimes Against Children Division. That mission is to protect the children of Tangipahoa Parish by proactively capturing Internet child predators and teaching the public about Internet safety,” Sheriff Daniel Edwards said.

Edwards provides Internet Safety presentations to adults and students free of charge. They are available to all schools, churches and organizations in Tangipahoa Parish. To schedule a presentation, contact Dawn Panepinto at (985) 902-2008 or send her an email at Panepintod@tpso.org.
