As a child, Dr. Ted J. Hudspeth Sr. could see himself as either a doctor or a musician.
Today, he’s both. Hudspeth practices family medicine in Hammond and plays in the Family Affair band, with his sister-in-law Becky Anne Eymard and three of his five children.
Hudspeth said he’s learned “You can do two things in your life. I’ve been very blessed.”
There’s Ted Jospeh Jr., 14, on the drums; Christopher, 12, on the saxophone, drums or piano; and Nicholas, 8, on the piano or drums.
Hudspeth’s two older children first stepped out into the limelight eight years ago at the premiere of the Ponchatoula event called the Strawberry Jam ’n Toast to the Arts Festival, which Hudspeth organized.
The boys will reunite with their younger brother again this weekend for the festival.
Visitors will have a chance to see the Family Affair band play at noon Saturday in front of city hall, at the eighth annual Strawberry Jam ’n Toast to the Arts in downtown Ponchatoula.
They’ll be among more than 70 bands and performing arts at the celebration this weekend.
The event supports the Northshore Regional Endowment for the Arts, which promotes music and art education in the region.
A new element to the event this year is the Strawberry Jam ’n Toast First Annual Film Festival. It will be held free of charge from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Speakeasy Restaurant, at 147 N.W. Railroad Ave., Ponchatoula.
The film fest is being curated by Alan Marsh and Martie Fellom, faculty members at Southeastern Louisiana University.
The evening will also feature the Friday Night Wine and Cheese Stroll and The Porch Rockers, who will perform at 9 p.m. Friday.
On Saturday, the day begins with opening ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. at Alligator Stage. Music and events will continue until 7 p.m., with bands performing on nine stages.
