The Livingston Parish Public School Board recognized parish schools that received the state’s rating of Exemplary Academic Growth or Recognized Academic Growth this school year, making them eligible for cash rewards from the state.

The State Department of Education awarded academic growth ratings to 277 schools statewide this school year. The ratings are based upon a compilation of test scores and accountability factors accumulated during the 2006-2007 year.

Eleven Livingston Parish schools were honored, all of which received $247,033 in cash rewards from the state. The cash awards will be spent on classroom enhancements at the schools.

In order for a school to be recognized for Exemplary Academic Growth, the school must meet or exceed its growth target as set by the state, have all of its subgroup performance scores increase by at least two points, and must not be in school improvement.

Livingston Parish Public Schools earning an Exemplary Academic Growth rating were Albany Lower Elementary, Albany Middle, Albany Upper Elementary, Denham Springs High School, Gray’s Creek Elementary and Live Oak Middle School.

Schools receiving a Recognized Academic Growth rating met or exceeded their growth target as set by the state. Livingston Parish schools receiving that rating included French Settlement Elementary, Levi Milton Elementary, Live Oak Elementary, Live Oak High and Southside Elementary.

The schools’ principals received plaques commemorating their schools’ achievements.
