Teachers and students gathered in the prayer garden at Holy Ghost School in Hammond to release butterflies in memory of Sean Michael Foster, an infant who died from birth defects.

Sean was the grandson of Barbara Hudgins, one of Holy Ghost’s assistant principals, and son of Heather and Derrick Foster.

A butterfly bath was blessed and dedicated to Sean’s memory by the Rev. Cayet Mangaracina.

Students in Suzanne Gautier’s science classes raised the butterflies from caterpillars. The students fed the caterpillars and provided habitats for each metamorphosis stage.

About 50 butterflies have been released during the last 2 weeks at the butterfly bath.
