Diocese of Baton Rouge Bishop Robert W. Muench visited St. Joseph School in Ponchatoula April 21.

Two elementary schools — St. Joseph and St. Jude in Baton Rouge — were the only schools in the diocese the bishop visited this year.

Muench’s visit began at 7 a.m. with the faculty followed by morning assembly at 7:35 a.m.

Christie Pevey and Seth Bleakley, Student Council president and vice president, gave the bishop a flat of Ponchatoula strawberries.

Muench, students, faculty and staff then celebrated Mass at St. Joseph Church.

Following Mass, the students divided into small groups. They met with the bishop, Sister Renee Daigle, St. Albert the Great Student Center in Hammond; Whitney Craig, Southeastern Louisiana University; and Seminarian Kevin Piper.

During his visit, the bishop talked to the students about religious vocations.
