EATEL, the SunShine Pages and Livingston Parish public schools recently honored 18 students and school employees at the 2008 Top Scholars Banquet at Forrest Grove Plantation.
The event Tuesday honored nine students’ academic success and community involvement and the teachers most influential on them.
EATEL and the SunShine Pages presented each student and teacher with $250 and $50 gift certificates, respectively.
The Top Scholars and their chosen teachers are Emily Ann Parrill, Albany High School senior; Josh Burton, Albany High School teacher; John Cole Forstall, Denham Springs High School senior; Norman Pendergrass, Denham Springs High School, retired teacher; Laura Elberling, Doyle High School senior; Kelli Lebeau, Doyle High School counselor; Brian Whitaker, French Settlement High School senior; Beth Meyers, French Settlement High School teacher; Kyle Vincent Barber, Live Oak High School senior; Jason Cooper, Live Oak High School teacher; Kristin Amorette Sanchez, Maurepas High School senior; Jeri Blount, Maurepas High School teacher; Brandy Kenyata Davis, Springfield High School senior; Lori Bratton, Springfield Elementary School teacher; Jennifer Lauren Matthews, Walker High School senior; Millie Powell, Walker High School teacher; Kristina “Desha” Coats, Holden High School senior; Mindy Bailey, Holden High School teacher.
Camp for youths slated
Club OutReach, a Walker community group, is planning June Fest for children ages 6 to 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays June 2 through June 27. The program will have a positive spiritual, social, academic and economical influence.

Bowling for science
Top Walker High School students recently placed ninth at the Louisiana Regional Science Bowl at Tulane University in New Orleans.
Walker High team members are Brett Devall, Matthew Lee, Brandon Trahan, John Warren, Shane Valure and Tamara Hubert. Dottie Hartman is the teacher. The team received $200 for placing in the Feb. 23 event.
Font to speak to group
Walker mayoral candidate Bobby Font speaks to the Livingston Chapter of the Humane Society of Louisiana at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the parish library’s Denham Springs-Walker branch, 8101 U.S. 190, Denham Springs.

Writers plan to meet
An Arts Council of Livingston Parish writers’ group meets 7 p.m. Thursday at 133 Hummell St., Denham Springs.
