Music, fun expected at festival

Cool tunes and hot cars and bikes can be heard and seen 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday during the Livingston Parish Jazz Fest at the Train Station Depot in Denham Springs.

The festival includes classic car and motorcycle contests, a poster contest for next year’s fest and music and dancing. The event along East Railroad Avenue is free.

Performers include The Ed Perkins Jazz Group at noon; The Deal Breakers at 1 p.m.; Livingston Parish Community Concert Band at 2:45 p.m.; jazz guitarist Robert Holden at 5:35 p.m.; and U.S. Navy Jazz Band at 6:05 p.m.

Pets welcome on Tuesday

A mobile clinic to spay and neuter dogs and cats will be in Albany on Tuesday and April 22. Animals must be in carriers and arrive by 9 a.m. for the “snip van” operated by Lakeshore Veterinary Hospital of Mandeville and the Feral Cat Consortium.

Procedures for dogs of any size or breed cost $50. Procedures for stray cats or those with owners cost $25. Appointments are required. Call (985) 626-5615.

Do I hear $20? Auction set

Lewis Vincent Elementary School has its annual spring carnival and auction from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The event includes silent and live auctions to raise money for the school.

Auction items include an LSU championship football autographed by the team; automotive services, dining, massages and fitness certificates; bed-and-breakfast stays; and a weekend resort trip.

Walker High talk slated

The parents of incoming sophomores to Walker High School are asked to meet 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss 2008-2009 school year scheduling. The event will be in the school gym, 12646 Burgess Ave.

A reception for exhibits by artists Louis DeAngelo Sr. and Eric J. Brown is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Artist Crossing Gallery in Denham Springs.
